Messery

The keeper of mysterious prehistoric and ancient heritage

The lush commune of Messery took its Latin name, Missiaricum, from a reference to booming agriculture in the area during Roman times. Today, Messery is located in a forested area, crisscrossed by tranquil trails and framed by the shores of Lake Geneva. The stretch of coastline that belongs to Messery is a popular spot for those who love water sports. However, this lush and dynamic setting has a long and rich history; the remains of two Neolithic settlements were revealed here, and in 1841, when the local St. Peter’s church (the goddaughter of the Cathedral of Geneva) was constructed, Roman-era stone fragments - most probably from local ruins were incorporated into the structure.

Excenevex

A unique, sandy beach on the shores of Lake Geneva

Excenevex is primarily known for the delightful, natural, fine, sandy beach that stretches along the coastline and descends gradually towards the crystal-clear water. During the summer months, when the blue-green lake and golden sand sparkle under the bright rays of the sun, it has a certain Mediterranean feel to it... As the weather turns colder, beach-goers are replaced by a wide variety of birds that come to winter in this safe haven. In the very heart of the village stands the church, named after young Saint Symphorien, who was martyred during the reign of Marcus Aurelius for refusing to worship idols.

Yvoire

A blossoming medieval village

THONON-Les-Bains

Where the Lake and Mountain meet

Thonon-les-Bains reveals its charms on the shores of Lake Geneva, balancing vibrant urban life with lakeside scenery. The shopping streets, market, and cafés create a pleasant town-like atmosphere, while the harbour and lakeside promenade offer sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and invite visitors to take leisurely strolls. The town is lively and dynamic, hosting festivals, cultural events, and activities throughout the year, while also offering direct access to water sports and hiking trails along the lake.

The brand-new open-air theatre is located here, and was recently named Valère-Novarina in tribute to the renowned Franco-Swiss playwright who passed away recently. Echoing the spirit of ancient open-air theatres, this new venue is set within the landscape of the newly established Parc du Léman, where the crowds face a stage against the backdrop of the vast panorama of Lake Geneva. The natural surroundings of this green theatre with a rich heritage seemed perfectly suited to hosting a choir.

Carouge

Little Italy in Geneva

Although located in a modern, developed area just outside Geneva, this former royal town retains a special charm. Strolling through the streets of the old town or Vieux-Carouge, which still conveys strong echoes of 18th-century Sardinian life during the reign of Victor Amadeus III, the visitor is immediately transported to a lively Italian town. At the same time, the quiet parks and charming streets create a calm, relaxed atmosphere. The Mediterranean charm of Carouge can be attributed to the Italian architects who designed the buildings. Carouge's bohemian quarter is host to independent cafés, interesting local hideaways, artisan boutiques, and artists' studios.
