Messery

The keeper of mysterious prehistoric and ancient heritage

Lush Messery received its Latin name, Missiaricum, as a reference to the booming agriculture in the area during Roman times. Today, Messery finds itself located in a forested area crisscrossed by tranquil trails and framed by the shore of Lake Geneva. The stretch of the coastline that belongs to Messery is a well-liked spot for lovers of water sports. However, this lush and dynamic scene has a long and rich history; remains of two Neolithic settlements came to light here, and in 1841, when the local church, St. Peter’s church (goddaughter of the Cathedral of Geneva) was built, Roman stone fragments, most probably from local ruins, were incorporated into the structure.

The delightful natural beach of fine sand that Excenevex is mostly known for stretches along the coastline and descends gradually toward the crystal clear water. During the summer months, when the blue-green lake and golden sand sparkle in the bright rays of the sun, it has a certain Mediterranean feel to it... As the weather turns colder, the beach-goers are replaced by all manner of birds that come to winter in this safe haven. In the very heart of the village stands the church, named after young Saint Symphorien, who was martyred during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, for refusing to worship the idols.

Yvoire

A blossoming medieval village

One of France's most beautiful villages, Yvoire is a place where time seems to have stood still since the Middle Ages. This well-preserved medieval village was fortified by Amadeus V, son of Thomas II of Savoy, in the 14th century; the imposing castle still stands proudly, protecting this picturesque little village. Situated at the tip of the Léman peninsula, Yvoire lies at the junction of the two main parts of Lac Léman, the ‘petit lac’ and the ‘grand lac’. Winding streets lead visitors on leisurely strolls past charming storefronts to the shimmering lake, where they can admire the splendid view of the harbour, the Jura mountains, the Swiss landscape, and the Alps.

THONON-Les-Bains

Where Lake Meets Mountain

On the shores of Lake Geneva, Thonon-les-Bains reveals its charm, balancing vibrant urban life with lakeside scenery. Its shopping streets, market, and cafés create a pleasant city atmosphere, while the harbor and lakeside promenade open onto sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and invite leisurely strolls. The town is lively and dynamic, hosting festivals, cultural events, and activities throughout the year, while also offering direct access to water sports and hiking trails along the lake.

It is within this setting that the brand-new open-air theater takes its place, recently named Valère-Novarina in tribute to the renowned Franco-Swiss playwright who passed away not long ago. Echoing the spirit of ancient open-air theaters, this new event venue extends its tiers within the landscaped setting of the newly created Parc du Léman, facing a stage whose backdrop is none other than the vast panorama of Lake Geneva. The natural and heritage-rich surroundings of this green theater seemed perfectly suited to host a choir.

Strolling through the streets of Vieux-Carouge, where there are still strong echoes of 18th-century Sardinian life during the reign of Victor Amadeus III, the visitor is immediately transported to a lively Italian town. At the same time, the quiet parks and charming streets create a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Carouge's Mediterranean charm is due to the Italian architects who designed the buildings.
